This was one amazing wedding weekend, and it was especially meaningful for us for a number of reasons. First off — Courtney & Nate planned their wedding as an amazing destination getaway for a small group of their closest friends and family at the gorgeous and secluded Roche Harbor resort on San Juan Island, WA. The weekend started off with a group of guests taking an incredibly beautiful ferry ride from the mainland out to San Juan. Everyone enjoyed the amazing views as the boat meandered the myriad little coves, bluffs and hidden harbors of the neighboring islands along the way. Another group of guests took a slightly more adventurous mode of transportation out to the island and arrived in the harbor by sea plane — which we’ll definitely have to try next time! As friends and family trickled onto the island over the next few days for the rehearsal and festivities you could really start to feel the sense of joy and celebration start to grow.

One thing that made this wedding especially unique and meaningful for us is that Courtney has been a dear friend of ours for many years. She and Lisa were roommates back in the day when we (the Rasers) were still just newly dating, and there is so much rich and great history there. Lisa was also so honored to serve as Courtney’s maid of honor, which meant we had the unique experience of being able to be a part in this wedding together, but from different sides of the camera — which was so much fun!

Courtney & Nate are small business owners together, adventurers together, and they share a deep partnership. They use this special bond to care for and encourage others in incredible ways, and they have a truly special heart for the friends and family surrounding them in their life together. Being around them is life-giving and joyful and being a part of this wedding celebration was something we will always cherish. We hope you enjoy these moments from a very special weekend with an extraordinary couple in a stunning place!

Courtney & Nate really had a passion for making their wedding as local, sustainable and personal as possible, and we wanted to share a few of their fun details from the day. One really fun thing they chose to do was to get all the flowers for the wedding day in bulk from an amazing little organic flower farm on the island. I am also so proud of Lisa, who took all the buckets of flowers that we brought home from the flower farm and created the most amazing bouquets for Courtney and all the bridesmaids, the boutonnieres for the groomsmen, and all the table arrangements for the reception. She is so gifted and talented outside of her work with the camera, and it was so much fun to be able to see her totally rocking a very different creative endeavor this weekend! The owners of the flower farm also process local San Juan Island salt, which Courtney & Nate gave as a flavorful little wedding favor to guests. Also, Courtney carefully chose much of what she wore on the wedding day from a number of talented small businesses and artisans — including her handmade wedding dress and wedding ring!

One thing that we have come to know about Angela and Kelvin is that they have a serious love affair with Humboldt County, CA. And, understandably! It boasts some truly unique natural beauty and a really different pace of life. Angela and Kelvin have told us a number of times that they take every opportunity they can to visit the area, and we were so excited when they let us know that they wanted to travel all the way from Southern California in order to meet us in this breathtaking locale for their engagement session. Their joy at being in a place they love so much together just made this day all the more awesome and fun! These two are seriously two of the sweetest people and we can’t wait for their destination wedding back up in these parts later this year. Here are a few of our favorite moments from our afternoon together — enjoy!

Andrew & Kristina were married on a beautiful hillside overlooking the Eel River, nestled amongst the seemingly endless forrest-covered hills of Humboldt County, CA. Because of the rural location, and since they wanted everyone to be able to celebrate with abandon late into the night, they invited their friends and family to bring their camping gear and join the little temporary wedding village that arose just down the hill by the river (we discovered that camping at weddings is a bit of a Humboldt County tradition). On the property is a house that Kristina’s grandparents built themselves, and guests who had come from all over the world gathered there to support and celebrate Kristina & Andrew on this amazing day. We had so much fun capturing this day and we hope you enjoy all of these fun moments from their celebration!

Easy going, full of laughter, and passionate about what they do — Eric & Naomi are exactly the type of couple that we love being around. Eric is a Napa area wine-maker and Naomi owns the cutest little bookshop in downtown Napa (next time you’re in town you have to stop in!). Together they have a completely infectious energy and joy that breaks through often in what can only be described as completely unbridled eruptions of laughter (as you’ll see evidenced in many of the moments from their day). It is so awesome. Every detail of their day was so lovingly assembled around friends, family and the things that they are passionate about. We can’t help but feel overwhelmed with joy ourselves on days like this when two amazing people come together in such a meaningful celebration. Congrats to these two again–we hope you enjoy these moments from their day!

One thing that we love about our job is that it allows us to get to know so many awesome couples. And sometimes, as with Mike & Lauren, we are lucky enough to have those relationships turn into deep and lasting friendships. As that friendship has grown it’s been easy to see that the more Mike and Lauren are together the more goodness and beauty comes out every endeavor they embark on together. This was so evident throughout their wedding day, as we witnessed the myriad beautiful ways in which they enrich and bless their families and loved ones. So many people came around them in gratitude, joy and celebration on this day and it reminded us why we love what we do, and how lucky we are to experience and capture moments like this.

Thank you so much also to Jewel Anderson, who contributed her awesome talents to helping capture this day. You’ll see some of her beautiful work in the post below. This was such a love-filled and inspiring day, and we are so excited to share this truly special wedding day with you. Enjoy!

(Oh ya, and Mike just happens to be an amazing cinematographer and wedding storyteller!)
